In her eyes like a wild rose
dancing until the summer froze
leaning on a folding chair
weighing more than i can bare
left like lighting in a cloud
i think that i am happy now

Dr. Dog - This Band Is Amazing
I've really been digging this band lately. They're from Philly which really seems to be blowing up with awesome music lately. I hear a ton of Beatles influence, especially from the bass player (lots of Paul in his style, as well as some Rick Danko from The Band for sure). They're also doing some really cool stuff with their harmonies which also has that throw-back 60s pop vibe (ala Beach Boys) to it. Different guys in the band sing different stuff so if you're not feelin the vocals try a different song. Give it a listen.

band coming soon
so it seems like a lifetime or two ago that i actually played a show other than random open mics here and there. i'm happy to say that my new band (currently without a name) will be playing shows soon. we've got at least 15 original tunes finished and i'm sure we'll throw a few covers in depending on venue but i'm really anxious to get out and play again.
i have no idea how to describe our sound but i'd call some of it honky-tonk rock, the kind of tunes that cause people to throw beer bottles at chicken wire because they can't contain their red-necked excitement, but we are by no means a "country" band and we'll have a mellow laid back side to our stuff as well. each of the 4 of us have some alt-country influence as a common thread but mike (singer/rhythm guitarist) is rooted in stuff like the pixies and bob mould and he comes from Omaha sharing venues with that saddle creek crowd and sean (bass, backing vocals) has become a serious gigging musician sharing the stage with some serious blues bands and dave (drums) has an extremely eclectic taste in tunes and has the delicate touch most drummers can't seem to figure out.
anyway, should be fun once we get up and running. it's never easy to get people to shows around here but we'll certainly try and we have plans to gig at some great places in omaha and elsewhere...can't wait. we're also recording some demos so hopefully those will be around before long.
we played an open mic at this biker bar the other night and were well received so maybe we have a future playing at biker rallies.
However,
we really can't decide on a name so that makes booking shows kinda awkward right now.

brrr
it's cold. don't stick your tongue to a flag pole.
i went out of town this past weekend and upon my return i attempted to launch my car into the driveway. you see, the snow from the street had been plowed in front of my driveway and since it was -90 degrees out it froze into a giant 3ft tall block of ice. however, the corner of the driveway was maybe 1.5ft of solid ice so i figured if i just floored it and tried to just ramp into my driveway everything would be fine and dandy and i could go inside and warm up after being away from home for a few days.
so i hit the gas...and made it most of the way into the driveway...sometimes i forget that i drive a kia rio5 now. totally stuck and halfway sticking out in the road i gave up and just left my car there. then a nice man in a large SUV came along and pushed my car into the driveway. once in the driveway danielle and i decided to play mountain climber and bust out the pick-axe and bust up some of the driveway so i could at least exit it in the morning and go to work. ahh, good times.
why not?
i'm just going to start posting random crap on here. i don't need anything significant to talk about, just random crap.

who wants to play "repo-man"?
Does this story make anyone else a bit angry?
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/28337800?GT1=43001
So the guy pushing carts at Walmart to feed his family is paying taxes which the government gives to these criminals so that they can go play golf?

new axe!

had to sell off 3 guitars and 2 amps before i bought this thing but well worth it. it's a "natural burst" gibson SG. sweet cheese, this thing wants to rock. but at the same time it wants to be all clean and dance around like one of those jerry garcia magic carpet solos. it's like if angus took acid and went to zappa's house and shot at beer cans with neil young and hunter s thompson. that's what it sounds like.
now gotta get a new amp.

d-train wacky coffee.
master control
monday morning - post-holiday
sleeping seemed overrated this weekend, now here comes monday, attempting to make me productive. coffee please.
i need to write a script, draw up some storyboards. creative things, thinking things; not monday things. monday morning things are coffee and granola bars. dreams of a fender tweed deluxe buzzing with warm chords in a warm room while the snow is falling. some more coffee.
i have yet to find better music to watch snow fall to than sufjan stevens.
